Bulldogs, Cougars hope to keep magical seasons going

Time flies when you're covering high school football. It's hard to believe the regular-season wrapped up Friday for the Class AAA, AA and A teams as well as the entire SCISA population. The first round of the playoffs kick off Friday, and the big story might just be this: Can the Burke Bulldogs and North Charleston Cougars keep the magic going? The old story is the Timberland Wolves are -- once again -- a No. 1 seed. North Charleston, which won its first region title since 2001, hosts North Myrtle Beach at 7:30 p.m. in a Class AAA Lower State game. If the Cougars keep winning, they could face Midland Valley in the second round and Myrtle Beach in the third round. The Cougars feature one of the most dynamic playmakers in the state in Denzel Myers. He had another huge effort in an easy win over Stall on Friday, and his regular season offensive statistics are so good you forget his best position might just be in the secondary.
